RETAIL DESIGN

Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory, Podium

A Japanese brand of desserts has grown popular in Metro Manila. Starting out as kiosks, Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory found an opportunity to have more control over its presentation through an inline store.

We were tasked to help them transition from the kiosk to a more immersive customer experience.

Challenge
  1. Being an international franchise, we were conscious that this design needed to be at par, how do we stay within the Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory brand while creating an experience for the local market?
  2. How can we provide all the requirements on a small site?
  3. How do we help evolve their physical presence?

The Process

We had to go back to the brand’s Japanese roots. Since it’s presence is found in many Asian countries, we studied what made it recognizable and distinct: a really catchy logo, the combination of tile and wood, its blue signature accents. We took those elements and merged it with what the previous kiosks here have been doing (our client wanted to use a light type of wood), so that we create a familiar experience, but then taken to the next level.

The most notable feature of this store is the cabinet modules. We designed them to the exact specifications of the cookie boxes. Based on that basic unit, we expanded the measurements so it can become both a display and storage module.

Looking at the store all the elements relate to each other. From the cabinet module to the main display area, all stem from a basic unit. We even got a feedback that the carpenter was surprised no tile was wasted.

Small spaces need to be very deliberate in the detail, this allows for a truly immersive brand experience.
